For dotplan, I have considered doing something a bit like Jekyll and similar blogging tools, where some YAML front matter could, if present, control the rendering. So perhaps you could enable a more structured feed that is delimited between entries in some way, use things like Markdown, and so on. I'm not sure if I want to do this yet but it is on my list to explore.
