About dotplan.space

dotplan.space is a small social network/aggregator built around the Finger protocol.

In the olden days, a finger server would return the contents of the .plan file in a user's home directory. It did this over plain TCP on port 79 — no security, no HTTP. This is perhaps the earliest form of microblogging.

This site tries to bring that back, a little. To post, you need to run a finger server (on any port), and periodically the site comes and picks up what you have written. It only speaks plain text — no markup here, but it can be pre-formatted so ASCII art fun is definitely feasible. If you're feeling fancy, you can also use ANSI escape codes to add colours.
